Then, transferring to the famed resort community of Palm Springs, we’ll soon arrive for a five-night stay at the fine Palm Mountain Resort, located in the heart of the downtown area. Our “welcome” evening features a thrilling scenic trip on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway to the summit of 8,516-foot Mt. San Jacinto, including a delicious dinner at Mountain Station. (D) | | | Day 2 | After breakfast at Ruby’s Diner, we’ll embark on a half-day Palm Springs/Coachella Valley Tour, accompanied by an expert local guide. Along the way, you’ll see homes of numerous past and present-day Hollywood stars, elaborate resort hotel developments and golf courses, plus lovely gardens and exclusive shopping complexes. This afternoon, you’re sure to enjoy a visit to the 1,200-acre Living Desert Zoo and Botanical Garden in Palm Desert, home to rare plants and over 140 animal species representing desert ecosystems from around the world. Dinner will be served this evening at Johnny Costa’s Ristorante in Palm Springs. (B, D) | | | Day 3 | Our full-day of sightseeing begins with a morning visit to the General Patton Memorial Museum at Chiriaco Summit, filled with memorabilia of the storied general and his World War II campaigns. Then sightseeing in Joshua Tree National Park will introduce us to this starkly beautiful, 800,000-acre desert wilderness containing mountain ranges, unique granite formations, varied resident and migratory birds, plus many spectacular desert plants like Joshua trees, ocotillos, palo verdes, yuccas and piñon pines. A picnic box lunch will be provided in the park, and dinner will be included at a popular restaurant in Palm Springs. (B, L, D)
