TOUR HIGHLIGHTS: New England’s magnificent fall splendor, easily reached from our Central New Hampshire “hub”…the colorful Maine seacoast, Southern Vermont’s Green Mountains and charming villages, historic Boston, Lexington and Concord, New Hampshire’s White Mountains and Franconia Notch, the Kancamagus Highway, Canterbury Shaker Village and Lake Winnipesaukee.
Daily Itinerary:
Day 1 Fly to Manchester, then check-in for a five-night stay at a fine motor hotel nearby. This afternoon, bonus sightseeing will be included for groups with early-arriving flights. Enjoy a delicious “welcome” dinner in Manchester this evening. (D)
Day 2 Today we travel to the picturesque Maine coast, following the shoreline through numerous colorful seaside towns, including the Yorks, Ogunquit and Kennebunkport. We’ll have time for browsing through unique craft and specialty stores, see the historic Portland Head Light, then shop at the famed L.L. Bean factory store in Freeport. A traditional Maine lobster and seafood feast caps the day at Foster’s Clambake. (CB, D)
Day 3 Traveling west to Southern Vermont this morning, our full-day tour features the magnificent fall colors of the Green Mountains. Along our route are Quechee Gorge, the “Grand Canyon of New England,” the charming community of Woodstock, the President Coolidge Homestead, the New England Maple Museum and Maple Market, and the Vermont Marble Exhibit in Proctor. Dinner is included tonight in the scenic Killington resort area. (CB, D)
Day 4 We’re off for a full day of sightseeing in historic Boston. First we’ll pause in Lexington and Concord, where the “shot was fired heard ‘round the world.” Here we’ll see the Minuteman Statue and “rude bridge,” plus homes of American authors. Next are Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. Crossing the Charles River, we’ll follow the Freedom Trail to such sights as the Boston Common, Granary Burying Ground, the Massachusetts State House, Faneuil Hall, the Old North Church and “Old Ironsides.” We’ll also see the sights of modern Boston, including Prudential Center, the Mother Church of Christian Science, Symphony Hall and Fenway Park, before concluding the day with a stop allowing ample time for browsing and dinner (on your own) at world-renowned Quincy Market. Day 5 Motoring through New Hampshire’s White Mountains to Franconia Notch, we’ll experience glorious autumn foliage as we visit The Basin and ride the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway for outstanding panoramic views. Next we’ll follow the beautiful Kancamagus Highway scenic drive to Conway. We’ll arrive this afternoon at the Canterbury Shaker Village for a tour showcasing the strict way of life followed by this industrious religious sect. A delicious “farewell” dinner will be served at a popular restaurant in nearby Concord, New Hampshire’s capital city. (CB, D)
Day 6 We’re sure to enjoy a refreshing late-morning lunch cruise on sky-blue Lake Winnipesaukee, the largest lake in New England, aboard the historic m/v Mount Washington. Late this afternoon, we’ll connect with our homeward-bound flight at the Manchester Airport. (CB, L)
